OUR STORY

THE BEGINNING

APOSTOLIC CHURCH OF TRENTON

In 1989 at General Conference in Louisville, KY God spoke to Pastor Gary Cook about starting an Apostolic Church in his hometown of Trenton. In 1993 this became a reality as he, his wife Carol, and daughter Kelsey left the church in Centerline, Pastored by Bruce Leaman.

The Apostolic Church of Trenton was born.

IN OUR HOME & TRENTON THEATER 1993-2002

In 1993 Pastor Cook and his family along with his in-laws and later his parents began to hold services in the basement of their home in Trenton. In 1994 God made a way for them to begin to rent the Trenton Theater from the City of Trenton.

From 1993-2002 the Theater was used for Sunday services while they continued to meet in their home on Wednesday nights for mid-week services. Eventually, they had outgrown their home and for a year in 2002 a school gym at an elementary school in Rockwood was rented on Wednesdays for mid-week services.

HURON VALLEY & UCC CHURCHES

2003-2004

In 2003 due to changes at the Trenton Theater it was deemed in the church’s best interest that we find another place to hold services.

For a year in 2003 the church then rented the Huron Valley Reformed Church in Rockwood.

Then in 2004 the church moved again and rented the United Church of Christ in Flat Rock for a year.

BUYING OUR BUILDING

2004

For years Pastor Cook had looked for a building or land in Trenton where we could have our own church, but nothing ever worked out. Pastor Cook had told God that if we had to find a building outside of Trenton so be it, but he would never buy anything that was more than 5 miles from Trenton.

In the fall of 2004, we began to look at the property that is now our church, which at the time was a Church of the Nazarene. God brought all of the people and finances together when we signed the papers in December 2004.

Do you want to know how far our building is from Trenton city limits? Exactly 5 miles.

This is when the Apostolic Church of Trenton become the Apostolic Church of Flat Rock.

APOSTOLIC CHURCH OF FLAT ROCK

2004-PRESENT

We know God had a plan all along and we know He moved this church to Flat Rock for a reason. This church has been in Flat Rock for over 15 years now. We have seen God transform many lives, perform many miracles, and change the world right here in Flat Rock or locally known affectionately as

“Level Pebble”.

The mission of our church is Luke 4:18-19 (KJV)

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.”

Our church’s mission from the beginning is to be a hospital where the Gospel can be preached, where God can heal the brokenhearted, captives can be delivered, the blind can find their sight, and they that are bruised can be set free.

1993-2020

This is what our church has done for the past 27 years and it is our prayer, hope, and vision that our church continues its mission until God calls His church home.

We are believing God for greater things. We know that if we speak faith and live faith, we will see God move mountains in faith!
